De Laurentiis Laments Problems in Luis Enrique Pursuit

Luis Enrique has been indicated as the primary candidate to replace Luciano Spalletti in the Napoli dugout. However, the parties struggled to come to an understanding. President Aurelio De Laurentiis declared that the coach was probably headed elsewhere talking to Rai (via TuttoSport.)

“He’s a great tactician and did very well with Barcelona, but I think that he wants to go to England. We are competing with leagues that are more alluring than ours. I can only tell him that they don’t have the gulf there and that our cuisine is better, but I can’t do much more than that.”

The Partenopei president updated on their search.

“We are mulling managers that use 4-3-3, which best suits our extraordinary players. We want to keep ahold of them. I’ve assessed about ten options that lean on such a scheme. I will pick the best one to continue our cycle. I want to keep sowing and I need help from all Neapolitans.”

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Napoli tendered a lucrative offer to Luis Enrique, €8M per year plus €2M add-ons. However, he wasn’t convinced they would retain Victor Osimhen and Kim Min-Jae this summer. Moreover, he wasn’t enthused by the lofty aspirations of the owner, who declared that they would aim to win the Champions League. The Spanish boss pays more attention to the project than money. The talks stalled after a promising approach.

Per Gianluca Di Marzio, Sergio Coinceiçao has become a serious contender for the Azzurri gig. Vincenzo Italiano and Thiago Motta remain on the shortlist.
