De Roon Backs In-Demand Hojlund to Further Get Better

Morten De Roon commented on Atalanta’s season, his future, and Rasmus Hojlund in an interview with Sky Sport.

“When I look at the standings and see that we are competing with Roma, the Milan teams, and Juventus, I think that we are still in the thick of it for the seventh year in a row. We have had difficult moments, but we are right there.”

“I was bothered when they said that our cycle had ended. We have always believed we could strive to play in Europe. We indeed are, and that’s a good sign. Our goal is to surprise everybody once again. Qualifying for the Champions League would have the same value as in the past, even though our group is a little different now. It’d be a nice achievement. We have to better exploit our home games because the faithful always support us. Maybe, we are more eager to attack and leave some room for the opponents when we are on our turf.”

De Roon showered Hojlund with praise for his development.

“I didn’t expect him to be this strong. When he joined, his qualities were noticeable, but maybe his first touch and conditioning were a bit lacking. He has incredible quickness and the stamina to go for the entire 90 minutes now. He has to improve some details to become a top player.”

De Roon, who spent some time at Middlesbrough before coming back to Atalanta, expects to finish his career in Bergamo.

“I think so, as I’m very happy here. I learned the local dialect after seven years, which is very nice but also difficult. Sometimes I use it with the fans, and that makes them laugh.”
