Daniele De Rossi concedes Roma made ‘too many’ mistakes in the second half as Genoa pegged them back late in a 1-1 draw. Artem Dovbyk’s first goal in Serie A put the Giallorossi in front before halftime, but Koni De Winter’s last-gasp equalizer condemned the visitors to a four-game winless league start.
Dovbyk got off the mark in the 37th minute to hand Roma a well-deserved lead. De Rossi’s men utterly outclassed Genoa before breaking the deadlock. However, the coach’s decision to drop his lines and defend a narrow one-goal cushion returned to bite the former Europa Conference League winners.
De Winter’s thumping header in the 96th minute denied Roma their first league victory of 2024/25, extending their disastrous winless run in Serie A to 11 matches. De Rossi could soon come under pressure despite his iconic status at the club. After the game, he delivered his assessment of the team’s performance.
“We dominated the first half. In the second half, we lowered ourselves a bit to be able to start again,” the Roma boss said, as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio. “We made too many technical mistakes, and this gives confidence to your opponents.”
“It was the game we wanted to play. We managed to move them and we managed to keep the ball well. In the first half, we had a few chances to score the second goal.“
Despite his side’s rotten patch, De Rossi insists Roma must fight for Champions League football.
“I think it’s a team that I have to fight for the Champions League. This is our goal. From there to becoming a failure if you don’t get there is another matter.“

Remember, De Rossi was touted as the perfect replacement of Mourinho, and was granted €320m to spend for a super squad. Two finals and a cup for Mourinho with no support, and now 15th, no finals, no cups, and X years more in the wilderness.
D.D. should do his utmost not to let Roma be relegated in serie B and forget about the champions league 🤔.
