De Rossi Very Optimistic About New and Improved Roster

Roma didn’t have the best of starts, picking up just two points in the first three rounds, but Daniele De Rossi is very confident about the quality of their squad and the newcomers. He weighed in to DAZN (via SOSFanta).

“It’s a roster with more quality and ball possession. We’ll turn it over less frequently. We’ll have more energy to recuperate it quickly, which allows you to dominate the rhythm. Everybody has their own ideas, but the math doesn’t always work. Football is trending toward combining technique and muscularity.”

De Rossi is particularly high on Matias Soulé.

“He had an incredible first Serie A season. His numbers, for instant in successful take-ons or key passes, were superior to other players with the same age who are among the best in the world. His second-half dip was caused by his inexperience or maybe team-related. When we faced him, I thought he would become world-class. Leandro Paredes and Paulo Dybala helped him settle in, and we have a really nice group overall. He’s a good guy with the hunger to become a champion.”

De Rossi isn’t worried about Artem Dovbyk’s slow start.

“He has a few seasons with many goals under his belt, especially the last one in a team that wasn’t built to finish that high. He was the main driving force behind Girona’s success along with Savio. He’s important finishing-wise but also to attack the space behind the defence. He’ll help us stay tighter and keep the ball up when we’re struggling.”

De Rossi had high praise for his successor Lorenzo Pellegrini.

“You can always learn even when you are 30. He’s a real man, a true captain, and an incredible athlete.”
