De Sciglio Bound for Juventus Stay

Mattia De Sciglio was deemed as a surplus requirement for Juventus last season as he was loaned out to Lyon in order to garner up more playing time.

His stint with the French club turned out to be fruitful and that has apparently convinced coach Massimiliano Allegri and the Juventus management to retain the former Rossoneri, along with his pre-season performances that have been commendable – according to Calciomercato.

The versatile 28-year-old defender is reportedly bound to play a key role for the Old Lady throughout the 2021/22 season, whether as a fullback or in a more advanced role as a flying wingback remains to be seen.

He can also function as a centre-back if needed, although that is highly unlikely with Giorgio Chiellini, Matthijs De Ligt and Leonardo Bonucci holding reins in those positions.

According to the report, his performances this season will play key role in dictating his future as his contract expires in June 2022. With only one more year left on his contract, De Sciglio has an important season on his hands and probably the most important of his career so far.

He has made 62 appearances for the Bianconeri since joining from Milan in 2017/18.
