Dejan Stankovic Set to Become New Sampdoria Coach

Just days after Sampdoria got rid of Marco Giampaolo, I Blucherchiati are on the verge of hiring Dejan Stankovic as the new manager.

Samp currently find themselves in last place through eight games, failing to win any of them. As a result, Giampaolo was dismissed following the club’s defeat to Monza ar the weekend.

Reports initially indicated that former boss Claudio Ranieri was being considered to take over the reigns. However, the experienced Italian had no interest in making a return to the Morassi.

Earlier today, however, Calciomercato wrote that Sampdoria and Stankovic held talks about the Serbian potentially becoming the club’s next head coach.

Shortly after that, Fabrizio Romano posted on Twitter that Stankovic is on the verge of becoming the new coach.

The 44-year-old is no stranger to the Italian game, having played for both Lazio and Inter. He spent most of his playing career in Italy, winning the treble with I Nerazzuri in 2009/10.

His only previous managerial experience was with Crvena zvezda, who he left at the end of the summer. There, he won the Serbian title three years running.
