Denzel Dumfries Keen to Stay at Inter, Club Will Listen to Offers

Fresh off winning his first Scudetto with Inter, Denzel Dumfries is eager to stay at Giuseppe Meazza amidst intense exit talks. Speaking to Sky Italia, Nerazzurri director Piero Ausilio discussed the Dutchman’s future, admitting the right-back told him he wants to remain in Lombardy.

Denzel has told me he wants to stay. He’s happy to continue here,” the Inter chief executive said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. “We will discuss his contract soon. In case there are new proposals, we will talk with Denzel, but he’s happy here.

Dumfries joined Inter from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 for only €12.5 million, putting pen to paper on a four-year contract. His deal runs out next summer, yet he may not last that long in Serie A.
He wants to stay, even though he tumbled down the pecking order in 2023/24. Despite making 31 league appearances, Dumfries only registered 19 starts, sharing playing time with Matteo Darmian.
With Darmian on the wrong side of the 30s, Inter are on the lookout for a new right-back. Simone Inzaghi’s men have reportedly set their sights on Girona’s Arnau Martinez and Betis’ Alex Perez. But they must first sort out Dumfries’ contractual wobble.
Pursued by Everton in the past, the Inter right-back has a host of admirers abroad. Therefore, the Italian champions can rest assured they would recoup their investment if they opt for a sale.
Considering Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation, Dumfries’ skills are perfectly suited to the coach’s tactical ideas, making it less likely that Inter will sell him without a reasonable compensation fee.
