Deschamps Comments on Future of Juventus and Milan Aces

French coach Didier Deschamps weighed in on some transfer-market-related matters about a few members of his squad. He addressed Adrien Rabiot first in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I know that he’s fine in Turin, where he stayed despite no Champions League football last season. They’ll play in it in the next one. We have discussed it at times, and it’s up to him to decide now. He’s free to do so and has a lot of options.”

Juventus recently tabled their first offer to extend his expiring contract. Deschamps also addressed Theo Hernandez, who’s occasionally linked to other teams.

“We talked about it in March. In general, there’s no longer the same enthusiasm as in the title-winning season, but he seemed happy at Milan to me, which he even captained even though he’s a foreigner.”

Deschamps also mused on Mike Maignan, who’s in a similar spot as his teammate, but didn’t offer hints.

“Racist incidents shouldn’t happen anymore. It hurt him. The mental element could have repercussions on the physique. However, he was extraordinary last season, so I don’t think there’s anything to worry about, even though he has been banged up lately.”

Deschamps closed with some remarks about two Inter stars.

“Thuram had a great season, improved his effectiveness, and worked in unison with Lautaro Martinez. He can play all over the attack. He can succeed Olivier Giroud despite having different traits. I know that Benjamin Pavard prefers featuring as a center-back, but Inter have a different scheme, and Simone Inzaghi still asks him to push a lot.”
