Sassuolo forward Armand Laurienté, who was signed from Lorient last summer, has been backed by his agent Roberto Meloni to make a big money move soon. The French winger was linked with a transfer to a number of big outfits, including Scudetto title holders Napoli, but nothing came to fruition.
Meloni spoke to the microphones of Radio CRC (via Tuttomercatoweb) and urged Laurienté to maintain his focus on achieving results with the Neroverdi.
“There have been chats with Napoli in the past. But in this world it’s quite normal. The boy must be focused on what he’s doing in Sassuolo, then his opportunity will come in a big club. It doesn’t take anything away from Sassuolo, which is very attentive to enhancing its talents.”
He then revealed the background behind his talks with the Partenopei.
“Why did the deal with Napoli fail? To close a negotiation, you have to sit around a table, maybe it wasn’t the right time. Marriages are always done in twos, or rather in threes.”
Meloni believes Laurienté will get back to his best this season, stressing that a player like him is a rare find.
“It must be said that playing against Napoli is never easy, then bad days can happen to everyone. Last year he ended the season early to undergo a small surgery for which he did not take any holidays, he remained in Sassuolo to work and perhaps this has had an impact. He needs to get back on the gas and get back to his levels. This season will give us a lot of satisfaction, I’m sure that Laurientè is a rare profile to find.”
Contracted with Sassuolo until the summer of 2027, Laurienté is a player in demand, although he is set to spend 2023/24 in the Neroverdi colors. Lorient sold him for €10M last summer, an acquisition that now seems like a bargain for Sassuolo.
