Di Maria Arrives in Italy to Finalize Juventus Transfer

Angel Di Maria is all set to begin his Juventus spell. The winger landed in Italy Thursday to take the medicals and sign the contract. He is joining as a free agent after PSG decided to move on from him.

As per Sky, the 34-year-old will earn €6M plus add-ons in 2022/2023. The Bianconeri managed to insert an option for another season. However, the attacker plans to return to Rosario Central next summer. The Old Lady originally proposed a two-year contract to benefit from some fiscal advantages. But the newcomer did not want to commit to it.

Rather than on the economic aspects, Juventus had to sell Di Maria and his family on the destination. Barcelona were also in the running, but they prioritized other signings. He would have had to wait to go there. The Bianconeri will be the sixth team in El Fideo’s career, considering also his turns at Benfica, Real Madrid, and Manchester United. He tallied 5 goals and 9 assists in 31 appearances in Paris in the most recent campaign.

The Argentine has won Ligue 1 five times and La Liga and the Portuguese championship once, among countless domestic silverware. He lifted the Champions League with Los Merengues in 2014, Copa America in 2021, and took home the Olympic gold medal in 2008. He has 122 caps with his national team.

Our Take on Juventus Signing Di Maria

After prioritizing youngsters and trying to reduce their wages-bill in the last couple of years, the Bianconeri are back to handing out large salaries to veterans. The winger still has a lot left in the tank and is bound to be successful in Serie A too, as he has done almost everywhere. However, he probably should not be the only addition to the role to be at ease.
