Spanish talent Brahim Diaz has gone from strength to strength in recent seasons, etching himself as one of Stefano Pioli’s key attackers. Diaz has been in a tug of war between parent club Real Madrid and Milan regarding his future, but with the Derby della Madonnina in the UEFA Champions League first leg looming, he is focused on getting the Rossoneri through.
In an excusive interview with Marca (via MilanNews), Diaz sounded as excited as every fan of the beautiful game to witness what the derby has in store for the Rossoneri and the Nerazzurri.
“It will be a crazy match, we will see which colors dominate the city. It will be exciting, for sure. Is there tension? We have had many finals in a row and we had little time to think. But we will face Inter, so there is an thrilling atmosphere. It is palpable and people want matchday to come. It is considered a very important match, but this also represents a Champions League semi-final.”
The number 10 is full of pride to have been bestowed the responsibility of donning the iconic number.
“It’s something incredible, an honour, something very special for the value it has. It fills me with pride, but I also like having that pressure that comes with it. In Milan, no.10 was worn by the Ballon d’Or players, who marked an era.”
The Malaga-born forward starred for Los Blancos for two seasons and was part of another iconic derby during his time there – the Madrid derby.
“In the end, they are two derbies between clubs that are used to winning. In Milan, everything is very passionate. Football is life. Milan and Inter are two great teams who always want more and they want to stick out their chests to say, ‘I’m from this squad and this squad rules the city.’ It will be a battle, no doubt.”
Diaz is bound to return to Real at the end of the season when his loan expires, but despite just one month remaining, he is not thinking ahead.
“I’m focused on Milan now. I want to be at the top, one hundred per cent. A very important match is approaching and now I’m just thinking about giving my all.”
