Diego Costa Says Yes to Salernitana, Undergoes Medical Tests

Salernitana are about to put their hands on Diego Costa, who has reportedly said yes to the Granata‘s transfer market proposal.

The former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea striker, a free agent since January 7, is already undergoing medical tests and could be ready to play in Salernitana’s next game against Spezia on February 7 at the Arechi Stadium.

Pulling Diego Costa in was a great transfer market move by Walter Sabatini, the newly-appointed director of sports of the Granata, who had already set his eyes on him in September when he was still working for Bologna.

Sabatini had spoken yesterday to TuttoSalernitana.com, commenting on the possible move and billing it as unlikely:

“Diego Costa is a moving situation, maybe the miracle will happen but for now it hasn’t happened, I can’t confirm this.”

But the situation seems to have evolved as the Brazilian-born, now Spain international is set to sign a contract until June with a salary of about 1.5M euro plus benefits.

Salernitana offered him an automatic renewal in case of permanence in Serie A, instead of a two-year contract as the striker had initially requested. Diego Costa also had other proposals but he chose Salerno as his destination where he is waited with great enthusiasm.

The Granata currently sit last in the Serie A table, having collected only 11 points out of 22 games, and are heavily involved in the battle to avoid relegation.
