Discussions Between Napoli and Osimhen Going Nowhere

The Napoli front office and Roberto Calenda, the agent of Victor Osimhen, had the first meeting in a while in recent days. CEO Maurizio Micheli and sports director Mauro Meluso, and not owner Aurelio De Laurentiis, represented the club, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

The summit served the purpose of clearing the air after the recent controversy related to a pair of TikTok videos but didn’t lead to any progress on the striker’s extension. The two parties were on the verge of agreeing to a multi-year contract with €9M annual wages late last summer.

Napoli would put Osimhen on the market next summer without a renewal and stoke a bidding war between Real Madrid, the Premier League powerhouses, and the Saudi teams.

The patron blamed the player for the U-turn while talking to the media (via Corriere dello Sport).

“I’ve never been not serene on Osimhen, but it takes two to tango. I have mantained the same idea during the negotiation. I can’t do anything if his mood changed and if, after shaking hands, there’s the denial of what we had said. We’re sorry for it and acknowledge it, but then life moves on. Napoli aren’t a stepping strone. The relationship with him is excellent, and the expiry date is 2025. There’s time. Moreover, you shouldn’t forget that I managed to sell Kalidou Koulibaly in the final year of his contract.”
