Despite the rumors linking him to a Serie A return, Mauro Icardi once again stayed at PSG. The striker would not have minded transferring since he does not have a big role. However, he wanted to do it only on a permanent deal, and his current team was on the same page, Calciomercato.com reports.
His entourage tried to engineer his departure in January. They proposed him to Juventus right after Christmas. At that point, the Bianconeri were not looking to invest to bolster their frontline. And they would have done it only for Dusan Vlahovic or Gianluca Scamacca. They requested him on loan without offering guarantees on a future buy-out. Icardi and PSG were not keen on such proposition.
According to the site, Barcelona and Arsenal held preliminary talks for the Argentinian striker, but they did not go far. The center-forward will fully push to depart next summer. He would like to return to Italy, but the potential landing spots have dried up.
Juventus acquired Vlahovic, Inter are not an option, while Roma and Napoli have Tammy Abraham and Victor Osimhen. Milan could have an opening if they did not re-up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Icardi would have no issue with the destination despite his Nerazzurri past, provided they purchased him outright from PSG. However, the Rossoneri would probably prioritize different and younger options if they did part ways with the Swedish ace. They are keeping tabs on Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak, Lille’s Jonathan David, and Club Brugge’s Noa Lang for the role.
