Done Deal: Napoli Sign Inter-Linked Center-Back for €40m

Alessandro Buongiorno’s long-awaited move from Torino to Napoli is reportedly on the verge of completion. Reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims the Italy international has reached a ‘full agreement’ with the Partenopei over personal terms and is ready to wear the sky-blue shirt.

Napoli and Torino struck a deal last week, with Aurelio De Laurentiis agreeing to pay €35 million upfront, plus another €5m in add-ons. However, the southern giants could come to terms with Buongiorno for days after Inter attempted to hijack the transfer at the 11th hour.

Despite being tempted by a switch to Giuseppe Meazza, Buongiorno eventually agreed to join Napoli after the parties overcame the final obstacle. The player’s camp insisted on a €70m release clause. After days of negotiations, De Laurentiis has reluctantly accepted the request.

Buongiorno will finalize his move to Napoli next Thursday. He’ll reportedly pen a five-year contract. But he’ll undergo a medical in Rome next Monday. He’ll then head to Diego Maradona Stadium headquarters to sign the papers.

In addition to completing Buongiorno’s acquisition, Napoli will soon announce another deal. Italian midfielder Michael Folorunsho will extend his contract until 2029 following a decent season-long loan at Hellas Verona.

With Rafa Marin arriving from Real Madrid, new Napoli coach Antonio Conte has seemingly set up a new defensive partnership after an abysmal 2023/24 campaign. Another reinforcement could come soon, with Leonardo Spinazolla eager to join the Partenopei after running down his contract at Roma.
