Donnarumma Gains Upper Hand as Napoli Eye Navas from PSG

Italy star shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma could become Paris Saint-Germain’s first choice under new coach Christophe Galtier, after Napoli expressed their interest in ex-Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas.

Following the departure of David Ospina to Saudi Arabia, the Partenopei are closing in on the contract renewal of Alex Meret, but it is understood that Luciano Spalletti would prefer having a more experienced option in the ranks, mainly for decisive matches.

Latest reports from Corriere dello Sport indicate that Napoli could take advantage of PSG’s unwillingness to continue paying Navas his €7M net per season salary. The three-time Champions League winning veteran prefers to stay put only if he is assured the starting place, but with his age catching up, it seems like he will have to take a pay cut and also sacrifice his starting spot in order to muster game time.

A loan transfer might work between the two parties, but only with Navas’ approval, as he still has two years left on his Parisian contract. If a move does materialize, it will eliminate all doubt regarding Donnarumma’s starting place, having played more league games and also starred in important games.

The Partenopei are hoping to add more new signings to their squad, having already onboarded Georgian wonderkid Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. However, they will first have to deal with the Kalidou Koulibaly situation at hand. In that regard, Napoli have laid their eyes on another PSG player on top of Navas, Abdou Diallo, who has been made available this summer, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.
