Douglas Luiz Transfer to Juventus at Risk Due to McKennie’s Greediness

Pessimism starts to creep in as Weston McKennie looks hellbent on making Douglas Luiz’s switch from Aston Villa to Juventus collapse. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the United States international’s wage demands have blown the Birmingham side out of the water, throwing the whole deal into doubt.

Juventus and Aston Villa agreed upon a complex operation last week. The Italians offered their Premier League counterparts €20 million cash plus the services of McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior. Despite accepting the proposal without thinking twice, the Lions have yet to find common ground with the USMNT midfielder.

While Aston Villa would ideally complete the deal in the coming days to avoid the risk of falling foul of the Profit and Sustainability Rules, McKennie continues to give them a hard time. Juventus can’t do much on their end, leaving all in the hands of the ex-Schalke 04 man. For now, everything is on hold.

Only McKennie can unblock the deal. But if he sticks to his guns, Juventus may need to dive back into their player pool to dig out another counterpart. Otherwise, they could miss out on a potentially crucial midfield signing to kick off the new era under Thiago Motta, which is the last thing they need amid complicated renewal talks with Adrien Rabiot.

Currently at Euro 2024 with France, the Juventus vice-captain remains radio-silent on his future, even though the Turin giants pitched his mother-agent, Veronique, with a formal offer. With Rabiot’s allegiance in limbo, the Bianconeri can’t afford to let the Luiz agreement slide.
