2014 World Cup winner Mesut Özil has hailed Fenerbahce starlet Arda Güler as a future star, with the 18-year-old turning heads across Europe. From Real Madrid and Milan to Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, there is no shortage of interest in the up-and-coming playmaker.
Özil was quizzed in a recent interview to Spanish outlet MARCA whether there is any number 10 better than him. And the ex-Real Madrid and Arsenal trequartista didn’t hesitate before answering.
“It’s a difficult question, but a name occurs to me, I have a brother in whom I believe, I hope God protects him from the evil eye: he is Arda Güler.”
Özil played alongside Güler during the final stint of his career at Fenerbahce, as he passed on his number ten at the club to the promising youngster.
Several of the aforementioned teams are willing to pay the release clause of approximately €18M needed to lure Güler away, despite the Turkish giant’s intentions to keep him for another year. Manchester United, Dortmund, Benfica, RB Leipzig, Liverpool, Barcelona and Napoli are also keeping close tabs on how the scenario for Güler unfolds.
