Dumfries Credits ‘Agent’ Teammate for Inter Transfer

Denzel Dumfries inherits an exciting and high demand role in the place of Achraf Hakimi on the right wing back position, who played a key role to Inter’s recent successes. The 25-year-old Dutch international shone on the grand stage at EURO 2020, garnering attention from some top clubs, of which Inter were the most keen to lure him.

Speaking to the microphones of DAZN (via FC Inter News), Dumfries commented on his debut and elaborated on which Nerazzurri personally motivated him to join the club.

“The debut was fantastic for me. For me it was a very special moment, entering the field for the first time as an Inter player,” he said.

Adding further, Dumfries said: “De Vrij played a fundamental role in my transfer. He also already knew Inzaghi well from Lazio. So Stefan is not only a central defender, but also an agent? Yes exactly, more or less he is also an agent!”

The ex-PSV full back also mentioned which former Inter player he takes inspiration from, pointing out legendary Brazilian right back Maicon as his idol.

“One of my reference points was Maicon, he was really a great player,” he said, “Yes, Zanetti wrote me a message when I arrived. It was a really warm welcome.”

Dumfries appeared in the Nerazzurri shirt for the first time against Genoa with six minutes left to play, as Inter ran riot in a 4-0 victory on opening match day.
