Dzeko Gives Credence to Juventus Links, Discusses Duel with Chiellini

Edin Dzeko confirmed the rumors he could have joined Juventus and not Inter in the recent past. The Bianconeri had reportedly identified him as a possible replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo. However, they gave up the chase in early August because they thought the Portuguese ace would stay at that point.

Dzeko discussed the potential transfer in an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport: “I do not like to look back. I am happy at Inter, and that is all. Secondly, Roma had initiated the talks and set up the deal with Juventus. I was not even aware of the negotiation at first. After I got involved, the move collapsed because the Giallorossi could not find a replacement at the time.”

Roma eventually let him go to the Nerazzurri to fill in for Romelu Lukaku and signed Tammy Abraham. Dzeko continued with the backstory: “Actually, it was Aleksander Kolarov that first told me about Inter’s interest. He said that they truly wanted to sign me, and here I am.”

Dzeko will likely do battle with Giorgio Chiellini Sunday: “He has been one of the best defenders in the last ten years. He is a deciding player for Juventus. It is always tough to face him. He always stays attached to you, even too much at times. I scored my first goal in Italy against him, but I was unable to break through on a few occasions. I would be fine with that in the upcoming clash. It would be better to win even without scoring.”
