Edin Dzeko dropped a hint about his future and commented on the title race and Inter’s form so far in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. He addressed the impact of the World Cup break.
“Every player will rest more than usual, even those that went to Qatar. It might even be helpful. I’d focus more on what comes next. We must do better and avoid the mistakes that hampered us so far. We have to give Napoli the credit for accumulating this gap. Eleven points are too many. It’s pointless to dwell on our first half of the season. The only thing we can do now is accelerate because there is time to make up ground.”
The Nerazzurri were on the wrong end of a comeback in the previous campaign.
“It could serve us as a lesson. They were saying we had already won in January, and maybe we got relaxed. You can’t give less than 100 percent in any game in Serie A. I’m optimistic by nature, and the level of the team fuels it. We have the stuff to march on at a fast pace.”
Dzeko wasn’t bothered by the return of Romelu Lukaku.
“Inter have great players by definition. The newcomers that raise the bar are welcome, and we need them. I embrace each of them. We can feature together, as I can do with anybody. You always find a way to coexist. I’ve often starred next to strikers that were as big as me, so it’s no problem.”
The contract of the veteran expires at the end of the season.
“My intention is to play extremely well until June, and the rest will come naturally. I won’t add anything else.”
