Ecuador Player Ratings vs Senegal: La Tri Crash Out in Loss

Ecuador crashed out of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Kalidou Koulibaly’s Senegal on the final matchday of Group A. Nervous Ecuador fans watched on as they saw their side go a goal down after a reckless challenge by defender Piero Hincapie allowed Ismaila Sarr to score from the spot. Moises Caicedo’s second half goal gave La Tri some hope but Koulibaly restored Senegal’s lead just a few minutes later to send them through to the last 16. It was a disappointing performance by Ecuador here and they simply didn’t do enough against a gutsy performance by Senegal who secured their place into the knockout rounds. So, here’s our Ecuador player ratings for their loss against Ecuador.

Ecuador (4-3-3):

Hernan Galindez – 5.5

Rushed out quickly inside the first five minutes with a good sliding tackle to stop a Senegal attack down the left flank. Made a couple of decent punches from corners and was alert off his line but couldn’t do much to stop either of the goals.

Angelo Preciado – 5

Gave away a number of fouls. Tried to attack the right flank at times but struggled to do much to impact the game here.

Felix Torres – 7

Made a couple of interceptions and blocks and was also solid in possession. Put in a good performance at the back despite the defeat.

Piero Hincapie – 6

Decent in possession and had a solid start to the game. However, made a clumsy challenge just before half time on Ismaila Sarr to give away a penalty.

Pervis Estupinan – 6

Some danger down his side of the pitch early on in what was a busy first quarter of the match. Looked to get forward too at times but was struggling a little against the likes of Iliman Ndiaye in the first half.

Alan Franco – 4

Rarely involved before being subbed off at half time for Jeremy Sarmiento.

Carlos Gruezo – 5.5

Made a couple of challenges in the midfield and was accurate in possession but was subbed off at the break for Jose Cifuentes.

Moises Caicedo – 6.5

Scored the equaliser for Ecuador with just over 20 minutes to go, converting at the back post following a corner. Wasn’t the best in the midfield battle but was okay in possession.

Gonzalo Plata – 6

Didn’t impact the first forty five. Got on the ball a bit more at start of the second half but couldn’t cause too many problems.

Michael Estrada – 4

Struggled to get into the game until he was brought off shortly after the hour mark.

Enner Valencia – 5

Ecuador’s main man at the tournament tried to make things happen and had a couple of efforts to open the match but couldn’t do much to threaten overall. Disappointing end to his World Cup campaign here as Ecuador head home.

Substitutions

Jose Cifuentes – 6

Positive when he came on, trying to progress play.

Jeremy Sarmiento – 6

Lively when he was introduced, linking play from the left-hand side. Didn’t do enough to change the game.
