Inter’s latest acquisition Edin Dzeko has shared his excitement about the new challenge after making an unofficial debut for the Nerazzurri. The Bosnia & Herzegovina captain took to Twitter to express his delight about joining the reigning Serie A champions.
Dzeko actually featured in Inter’s off-season friendly against Dynamo Kyiv on Saturday evening, a day before he officially penned a contract at the Giuseppe Meazza.
The 35-year-old’s new adventure got off to a flying start as he found the net in yesterday’s warm-up fixture to help Simone Inzaghi’s side register a 3-0 triumph. In addition to Dzeko, Nicolo Barella and Stefano Sensi were also on the scoresheet.
Dzeko joined Inter as a somewhat emergency signing following Romelu Lukaku’s switch to Chelsea. The Belgian’s blockbuster return to Stamford Bridge has forced Inter to intervene in the market and bring in a new striker.
Although one of the main reasons behind Inter’s decision to land Dzeko is the player’s affordable price tag and wages, make no mistake, the Bosnian is a proven centre-forward. During his six-year stint at Roma, he bagged 119 goals and provided 55 assists in 260 appearances across all competitions.
Delighted with a move to Lombardy, Dzeko wrote on Twitter: “A new chapter opens for me and my family: I am happy and proud to start my new adventure with Inter.
“I feel charged and ready to work together with the club and my new teammates to achieve our goals.“
Despite his age, Dzeko is still one of the fiercest forwards in Serie A. He might not be as fast as he used to be during his time at Manchester City, but the former Wolfsburg marksman deserves the benefit of the doubt.
