What a career it’s been for Claudio Ranieri! One of the most iconic coaches in Italian football history has called time on his 38-year managerial journey

Cagliari’s controversial 3-2 home defeat to Fiorentina wasn’t the best way to go. But Unipol Domus knew how to bid a proper farewell to the legend. Heartwarming scenes in Sardinia saw the entire stadium shout the 72-year-old’s name before the kick-off. Mister Ranieri duly deserved a standing ovation.

Ranieri steered Cagliari back to Serie A last season and, more importantly, helped them stay afloat despite stiff competition in the top flight this term. With tears in his eyes, the decorated coach waved goodbye to senior management after walking around the field to salute all fan sections at Unipol Domus.

Cagliari supporters weren’t the only ones to congratulate Ranieri for his accomplishments. Fiorentina couldn’t forget what he did for them during his four-year stint from 1993 to 1997, as they gifted the retiring coach a team jersey with his name on it and a No. 1

It was a sight to behold. Ranieri gave an emotional speech after the full-time whistle as his illustrious managerial career that started in 1986 ended on Thursday night. However, Cagliari fans and all football enthusiasts will never forget his contribution to the game we all love.

From an array of magical moments throughout the Italian veteran’s storied career, the famous 2016 Premier League title with Leicester City stands out as a crowning achievement. Ranieri, a tactical genius in a nutshell, inspired the Foxes to one of the most improbable championship victories ever witnessed.
