Empoli Eye Venezia Loanee Caldara, Unlikely to Stay at Milan

Venezia center-back Mattia Caldara, who is bound to return to Milan after a fruitful loan season, is being touted for a move away from the Rossoneri as Italian suitors enter the picture for his signature.

The Bergamo-born Atalanta youth product has spent the last three Serie A campaigns on loan – two at boyhood club, before jumping ship with newly-promoted Venezia. Few clubs have inquired about his availability, with the most recent one being Empoli.

According to transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the defender has tangible interest coming his way from the Tuscan club, who seek to better their 14th position from last season.

“Empoli have two targets for the defence. Caldara is a concrete track and thier management could soon reach an agreement with Milan. Despite the relegation of Venezia, the defender has done well this season. The other option is Victor Chust.”

The center-back has appearing 33 times in 2021/2022, having one goal and one assist to his name. Caldara is under contract with Milan until the summer of 2023, making his departure in a permanent fashion more likely. Apart from Empoli, Torino, who will lose Gleison Bremer, have also reportedly surveyed in an exploratory manner regarding his availability, as per Calciomercato.
