Empoli Reportedly on the Brink of a Coaching Change

Empoli are seriously considering axing Paolo Zanetti following a disastrous start and the 0-7 loss at the hands of Roma on Sunday night. The Azzurri are the only side that hasn’t picked up a point or scored a goal so far. They are all alone at the bottom of the table.

According to DAZN’s Orazio Accomando, the management is leaning toward pulling the plug. They’ll further deliberate, but the decision will likely be official tonight or Tuesday morning.

Zanetti was confirmed on the Empoli bench after agreeing to a seasonal contract last season. The Tuscan side avoided relegation thanks to a fiery first half and landed the plane comfortably despite a spring swoon. They lost to Verona, Monza, and Juventus in the first three games.

The Azzurri bass is mulling a reunion with Aurelio Andreazzoli. He was on the bench before the current coach and didn’t work out at Ternana. Former Italy U-21 boss Paolo Nicolato and ex-Salernitana gaffer Davide Nicola are also in the running. Per Tuttomercatoweb, the president has made the call on the firing but has yet to decide on the next tactician.

Our Take on Empoli and Zanetti

Considering the tactical and personnel confusion, a coaching change might be the only fix. Appointing Nicola would be odd for a side that likes to play proactive football. They should go back to 4-3-1-2 after experimenting excessively.
