England Brush Italy Aside in Terms of January Transfer Spending, Reveals FIFA

FIFA’s official report on the January winter transfer window that witnesses an aggregate of $1.03 billion dollars being spent on transfer fees by clubs across the world. The report reveals England to be the biggest spender, once again, with Italy trailing way behind in second spot.

English clubs spent an astounding $349.5m in transfer fees, followed by Serie A clubs who shed $113.5m.

Spain ($111.1m), France ($75.2m), Russia ($72.1m), Germany ($70.2m), Belgium ($32.7m), Greece ($23.7m), Saudi Arabia ($23.5m) and Brazil ($23.1m) complete the top ten list by spending on transfer fees in January.

Juventus are undoubtedly the torchbearers in the peninsula when it comes to transfer spending the month before, given the star acquisition of the window from Fiorentina, Dusan Vlahovic. The Bianconeri parted with €81.5m including add-ons – that marks approximately 3/4th of the aggregate transfer fees spent by Italian clubs.

In terms of receipts from incoming transfers, Italy ranks in fifth position, earning $71.5m from transfer receipts, behind England ($108.6m), France ($99.2m), Portugal ($94.3m) and USA ($73m).

Clubs from Italy saw 96 players arrive in total – similar to the number of outgoing transfers from the peninsula, 91.
