As England prepare to take on Italy at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Napoli, coach Gareth Southgate has made some interesting statements on the eve of the blockbuster clash. The two European giants will face in the first UEFA EURO Group C Qualifiers matchday tomorrow evening.
Speaking to the press ahead of the tie (via MilanNews), Southgate heaped praise on Napoli as a team, backing them to win a maiden UEFA Champions League title this season.
“I’m happy to be here. The football history in this city is very rich. Napoli is a fantastic team and will certainly win the Scudetto. They are also be in contention to win the Champions League.”
Napoli are 19 points clear atop Serie A standings with 11 games to go, and in line to seal the Scudetto title come April when the season resumes after the international break. They will face Milan in the UCL quarter-finals, with the first leg scheduled at San Siro on April 12, before the return leg six days later.
