Feyenoord star Calvin Stengs has played down recent speculation linking him with a move to Lazio, insisting he’s ‘happy’ with his life in Rotterdam. In an interview with ESPN, the 25-year-old addressed rumors about his potential transfer to the Stadio Olimpico.
“It’s true, Lazio came looking for me, but there is nothing concrete,” Stengs said, as quoted by Calciomercato. But the ex-Nice midfielder left the door open for a possible switch. “I am happy at Feyenoord. I’ve only been here for a year, so we’ll see what happens,” he added.
Formerly linked with a move to Fiorentina, Stengs has recently caught the eye of Lazio. Marco Baroni’s men hold the Dutch midfielder in high regard, yet they’re unprepared to offer more than €12 million to capture his signature. On the other hand, Feyenoord are holding out for a €15m asking price.
Since the gap between supply and demand isn’t huge, the deal could be in the pipeline. Feyenoord paid Nice around €6m to purchase Stengs last summer. His price tag has doubled following an impressive 2023/24 campaign at De Kuip.
Stengs clocked up an eye-catching eight goals and 18 assists across 43 competitive appearances under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot. Despite his underwhelming stint in Ligue 1, the Dutchman is back on track, and Lazio could use a player of his caliber after losing Luis Alberto.
Lazio completed the signing of Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru on Saturday, but they’re unwilling to stop there. Stengs could be their next addition as Claudio Lotito bids to assemble a squad capable of returning to the Champions League.
