Europa League and ECL Draws Not Kind to Atalanta and Roma

Atalanta will combat another top-tier German in Europa League, while Roma will face their demons in the quarter-finals of the European Conference League. La Dea has been paired with RB Leipzig, while the Giallorossi will face Bodo/Glimt again.

The Bergamaschi defeated Bayer Leverkusen in the previous round, winning both at home (3-2) and on the road (0-1). They were relegated to the second European competition after finishing third in their Champions League group. RB Leipzig are currently in 4th position in the Bundesliga. They have one fewer point than the side the Nerazzurri just beat.

Given the circumstances, Roma had fewer chances to draw a mighty outfit than Atalanta. However, their next challenge will be full of intrigue nonetheless. Bodo/Glimt famously romped them 6-1 in the group stage. The match at the Stadio Olimpico ended in a 2-2 draw. The Norwegian side sold two of their best players in January, though. Top striker Erik Botheim joined Krasnodar, while midfielder Patrick Berg moved to Lens. La Lupa squeaked by Vitesse in the Round of 16.

If they moved on, La Dea would avoid Barcelona, the main favorites, up until the final. They would face either Sporting Braga or Glasgow Rangers in the penultimate stage. Instead, the Giallorossi would square off with one of the other frontrunners to take home the European Conference League, either Leicester City or PSV. Atalanta and Roma are the final two remaining Serie A teams in Europe following Inter and Juventus’ eliminations from the Champions League.
