European Qualification Key for Sarri Future at Lazio

Despite the confidence recently displayed by president Claudio Lotito, it is not certain that Maurizio Sarri will remain the Lazio coach next season. Qualifying for a European competition would help, but there are some significant disagreements that need to be smoothed over. The Biancocelesti are currently in sixth position, on a par with Fiorentina and one point above Atalanta. They have played in a continental competition in five straight seasons.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, keeping the streak alive would give them more money to spend on the transfer market. The upcoming window will be rather challenging. Participating in a cup would raise the club’s appeal. Instead, missing out could easily lead to a mutual split between the parties.

According to the publication, Sarri and the Lazio management do not see eye-to-eye on the strategies. The front office expected more flexibility from the coach, especially concerning their January purchases. Instead, the gaffer hoped the directors followed his advice more.

The manager and the president quarreled after the Milan game, Il Messaggero informs. Lotito invited the team to clear the ball more often, as the opponents did. Instead, the coach replied: “This is my style of football. If you are not okay with it, you should hire Stefano Pioli back.” The Lazio owner praised Sarri in his most recent public remarks to LaPresse: “He is a top-quality man and is always working the pitch. He is unquestionable. It is still premature to sort out his future, but I hold him in high regard.”
