Ex-Bayern Chief Rummenigge Takes Stock of Napoli and Inter

German football legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes Napoli are well in line to go far in the UEFA Champions League, as the Partenopei prepare to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Round of 16. The ex-Inter forward also thinks the Nerazzurri are the only team that can threaten Napoli’s Scudetto charge.

Speaking to DAZN (via FCInterNews) in an exclusive interview, Rummenigge shed his thoughts on how Italian teams are forging their way forward, starting with Napoli.

“They are a very strong team, I like Spalletti who is doing a great job, he knows what he has in his hand. They destroyed Juve incredibly. Italian football has changed, there is less bolt than in my day: it is on track.”

He then revealed the Partenopei’s chances in the top-tier continental campaign.

“The real Champions League starts now. Bayern has won six out of six games in the group, but now difficult races begin. Napoli can go all the way, they must also have luck in the draw. Eintracht is an opponent to be respected, but obviously the Azzurri are favorites.”

Rummenigge thinks Inter are the only side capable of upsetting Napoli.

“And they are only team that can become dangerous for Napoli, there are still 20 games missing even if there are many points of detachment.”

Inter are also competing in the Champions League, as they take on Portuguese giants Porto in the knockout stages.

“Inter can go on, if they don’t underestimate Porto. Inter, we must not forget, passed as second in Bayern and Barcelona’s group: for me it is already a success to be in the round of 16.”

Milan are the other Italian team in running for the prized trophy. The Rossoneri clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
