Ex-Juventus and Inter Manager Lippi Previews Coppa Italia Final

Inter take on Juventus in the final of the Coppa Italia in Rome’s iconic Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday evening – a highly anticipated encounter for both teams who are at the risk of ending the season with less or no trophies than expected.

However, it is the Nerazzurri who will have all the nerves, with two matches left in Serie A as they still lag two points behind Milan.

Legendary Italian tactician Marcelo Lippi, who managed both teams in back-to-back stints from 1999 to 2004, believes the match will be special because it is a final.

Speaking to Tuttosport (via FCInterNews), Lippi shared his thoughts on the upcoming blockbuster clash between the two teams.

“It is one of the great classic matches of Italian football, a special match because it is a final,” he started.

The 2006 World Cup winner thinks Juventus have all the ability to stage an upset despite not being a ‘Scudetto team’

He said: “Probably this year Juventus was not a Scudetto team. Maybe they are about to become, but they are a team that have made it to the Champions League and by winning the Coppa Italia, they will have achieved something important.”

He then shed his thoughts on Inter, whose three remaining matches will be the most important of the season, albeit not having a say in the Scudetto title race.

“On the other hand, Inter are competing on two fronts. They are in a difficult situation in the league, but in this final, they are in good physical condition, with a potential that probably no other team has. So potentially he can still make a double,” he concluded.

Inter will take on Juventus for a second consecutive silverware this campaign after beating them earlier this year in the Supercoppa Italiana final.
