Ex-Juventus Icon Backs Milan to Pip Napoli and Inter to Scudetto Victory

Italian icon and Juventus legend Andrea Barzagli, who retired a few years ago, has shared his thoughts on the Scudetto race this season. The ex-Azzurri defender is now a pundit at DAZN and in an interview with Corriere dello Sport, spoke about a handful of topics, including the lack of consistency among the top teams and the upcoming Derby d’Italia clash in Turin.

When quizzed about why the current standings are as they are, Barzagli shed light upon the inconsistency at play between Inter, Milan, Napoli and Juventus.

“Nobody has consistency, the fundamental component to win. Milan and Napoli are doing their best, Inter and Juve are a bit below expectations,” he said. (via TuttoNapoli)

Inter’s steady drop in form has pushed Napoli and Milan to outdo them in the Serie A table, and the derby encounter against deadly rivals Juventus on the weekend poses yet another threat in their run for a second successive Scudetto.

Speaking of which, he said: “A negative result would exacerbate Inter’s current crisis, while a (positive) statement would relaunch it in a big way.”

Finally, he revealed who he thinks will grab the championship title after eight weeks.

“Milan, but in August I would have said Inter because, despite the departures of Lukaku and Hakimi, they had something more than the others. I thought the Rossoneri was in the running for one of the first four places, not the first. I was wrong,” he disclosed.

Milan lead the table with 66 points, three more than Napoli and six ahead of Inter, who despite having a game in hand, lead Juventus by just one point heading towards the end of the season.
