Ex-Napoli Striker Alerts European Clubs of ‘Next Mertens’

Former Napoli marksman Roberto ‘El Pampa’ Sosa has revealed an Argentine prospect who, according to him, could become the next Dries Mertens. The Partenopei’s all-time goalscorer in Serie A, joined Galatasaray on a free transfer before the start of the current season, but Napoli’s transfer arrivals have exceeded expectations in the south of Italy.

In a recent interview (via Calciomercato), Sosa alerted European clubs of Gimnasia La Plata forward Benjamin Dominguez.

“Who I want to point out is Benjamin Dominguez, a short and very technical attacking winger, somewhat reminiscent of Mertens.”

Sosa also graduated from Gimnasia, before moving to Serie A in 1998 with Udinese.

“Born in 2003, he plays in “my” Gimnasia , tomorrow he will be the starter in the derby against Estudiantes, the man jumps well, he is very good at one-on-one. In my opinion, whoever takes him now gets a bargain, you take him and keep him there for another couple of years, now it’s cheap. Then don’t say I didn’t tell you.”

19-year-old Benjamin Dominguez has been praised for his versatility, capable of starring on either wings, in addition to function as a second striker.
