Ex-President Moratti Blames Inter Shortcomings for Napoli Gap

Former Inter president Massimo Moratti believes Inter could have fared much better than their present 15-point divide to league leaders Napoli. According to the treble-winning club chief, the Nerazzurri have been the victim of poor man management, picking at Romelu Lukaku and Milan Skriniar’s issues from the outset.

“We started off with much more ambition than what reality forced us to see afterward. Napoli are very strong but 15 points away from the first is something that doesn’t put you in a position to have done your best. Lukaku is missing and he would have been very useful if he was fit. There are alibis. And then the fact of Skriniar who perhaps created some problems.” (via TuttoNapoli)

Moratti however chose to praise two players specifically who have impressed him.

“Lautaro certainly, 100%. Both in the role of centre-forward that he has on the pitch and in that of captain, he is doing well with the right attitude. Calhanoglu in midfield is also good. Ultimately, we have players who are interesting.”

With the Scudetto dream all but faded away, Inter have the UEFA Champions League to focus on against Porto as they head to Portugal on Tuesday to defend their 1-0 aggregate lead.
