Olympique de Marseille forward Cengiz Ünder has expressed his admiration and love for the French giants. The 25-year-old Turk moved from Roma to Marseille initially on a loan deal, which was turned permanent at the start of the 2022/23 season, and he does not wish to move elsewhere following his transfer.
Under spoke to La Provence (via Calciomercato) in an exclusive interview and shed light on his future plans.
“I’m happy here. I want to finish the season well, qualify for the Champions League and stay in Marseille.”
Ünder signed for Roma in a €14M deal from Istanbul Basaksehir in the summer of 2017. He spent three seasons at the Stadio Olimpico, where he bagged 17 goals in 88 appearances for the club until a loan transfer to Leicester City materialized in 2020. He transferred to France for €8.40M last summer.
Marseille are en route to a potential top-two finish, with RC Lens trailing Les Olympiens by just one point in third place. Based on France’s UEFA coefficient ranking, the first two teams qualify directly for the UEFA Champions League, whereas the third proceeds to play the qualifiers.
