Italy icon Fabio Cannavaro has drawn comparisons between Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Inter legend Javier Zanetti, saying the Napoli captain is ‘indispensable’ for Luciano Spalletti’s side.
Di Lorenzo has played a key role in the Partenopei’s ascendancy across all fronts, as the southerners find themselves not far from lifting their first Scudetto title in 33 years and a historic UEFA Champions League quarter-final qualification.
“For me he is the best of all, the indispensable. I was with Luciano Spalletti after the Atalanta match and I told him: he’s someone who has played at least 6.5 points in every match. Always. A guarantee. For me, he’s like Javier Zanetti, he’s at his level,” said Cannavaro in a talk with Il Mattino. (via FCInterNews)
According to the 2006 World Cup winner, Di Lorenzo largely shines due to his sportsmanship qualities and consistency.
“He has frightening continuity, he knows how to play with the ball at his feet, he’s very strong in one-on-one situations and then he’s available and humble with his partner: if he sees him in trouble, that’s where he runs to his rescue. Always doing the best thing.”
Di Lorenzo has 11 goals in 170 appearances for Napoli since joining from Empoli in 2019.
