Fabio Capello: “Juventus Already out of the Scudetto Race”

Fabio Capello said his piece about Italy and Serie A in an interview. “There have been some interesting developments but, when I see Premier League, it looks like another sport. A part of that depends on the referees. It is a cultural matter. Every tackle is a foul here. Plus, there is a lot of diving. Those issues do not allow to raise the bar.”

The former coach spoke to Corriere dello Sport: “I think Juventus are already out of the running for Scudetto. They are too distant from the top of the table, and they have a few teams ahead of them. It will be a hard-fought title race, but it is complicated to catch up with Napoli, Milan, Inter and Roma.”

Capello spoke about the Nations League semifinal between the Azzurri and Spain: “It will be a challenging match like the Euro one. Their style gives us fits. The script will not be much different as they will hold the ball a lot. However, if we defend well, we will have our chances thanks to their absences.”

“With the World Cup on the horizon, Italy will have to maintain the same humility, spirit of sacrifice and glee. Those were the foundations of their success. They must avoid being complacent because repeating is harder than winning the first time.”

Capello weighed in on the debate regarding the Azzurri’s attack: “I like Lorenzo Insigne more on the left flank than as a false-nine. In general, I think everybody should play in their most natural role. If Roberto Mancini thinks he could work out there, then it is fine to experiment. Instead, I do not see Nicolò Zaniolo in that position. He needs to feature on the wing to have room to unleash his physical strength.”
