Fiorentina and Atalanta Considering Swap of Loanees

Fiorentina and Atalanta are in the early stages of discussing a swap to address each other’s needs. The Viola are in the hunt for a new starting goalkeeper. Instead, the Bergamaschi are always willing to add to their frontline.

According to SportMediaset, the Gigliati inquired about Pierluigi Gollini and could send Christian Kouamé to La Dea in return. The shot-stopper spent the past season on loan to Tottenham as Hugo Lloris’ backup. The Spurs are highly unlikely to pick up their €15M option to buy him out. The Nerazzurri would quickly re-route him with a similar price tag and could agree to another initial temporary spell.

Kouamé has had a tough time breaking through in Serie A. On the other hand, he thrived at Anderlecht in 2021-2022, bagging 13 goals and providing 10 assists in 36 appearances. He also played at Genoa and Cittadella among the pros in Italy. Fiorentina would be looking to avoid spending for Gollini by tossing the Ivorian forward in the swap with Atalanta.

Our Take on the Rumored Trade

Gollini would be a solid choice for the Viola, who could use an upgrade over Pietro Terracciano between the sticks. Although not as intriguing as Guglielmo Vicario, who has been remarkable at Empoli and has recently been linked to them too. Kouamé is a great athlete and only 24 and could fare well in Atalanta’s fast-paced scheme. However, their attack might be a little too crowded if he joined. The deal could likely move forward only if the Orobici had some offensive exits.
