Fiorentina and Inter Icon Toldo: “My Heart Is Divided”

Serie A legend Francesco Toldo has his heart split in two ahead of the Coppa Italia final between Fiorentina and Inter – having spent 17 years between the two clubs from 1993 to 2010. The goalkeeper etched himself as a Viola icon in the 1990s, before jumping ship to the Nerazzurri for the first decade of the 21st century.

With both his teams facing each other in what is promised to be a fantastic encounter, Toldo refrained from commenting on which side he’s supporting in an exclusive with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I’ve played seventeen years between the Viola and Nerazzurri. Don’t ask me who I’m rooting for because my heart is divided in two.”

However, he did give his say based on the squads’ forms, with both Fiorentina and Inter recently grabbing spots in the Conference League and Champions League finals respectively.

“Inter are powerful and in good shape, but the Viola aren’t joking either and give them fits domestically. However, everything resets in a final. It’s only how you enter the pitch that counts. Your head guides your legs.”

Toldo appeared 336 times for the Viola from 1993 to 2001, before moving to Milan in a €26.5M transfer, where he ended up capping the Nerazzurri jersey in 234 matches across all competitions.
