Fiorentina and Roma are considering Pontus Almqvist, who returned to Rostov following a loan spell at Lecce. The winger tallied 2 goals and 3 assists in 30 matches but wasn’t retained. He was no longer a fixture of the formation under Luca Gotti.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the two clubs tested the waters about the 24-year-old, who will be on the move again. He would like to return to Italy. His side might let him go out on loan again even though his contract expires in 2025, also due to the ongoing Ukraine war.
If either Fiorentina or Roma snapped up Almqvist temporarily this summer, they’d have a chance to sign him for free in the future. He has been a journeyman early in his career. He broke out at Norrkoping in 2019/2020 after a few turns in smaller Swedish sides. Rostov acquired him for €3.75M but then shipped him off multiple times. He also starred for Utrecht and Pogon Szczecin.
The attacker had his best campaigns in his home country back in 2020 and in Poland in 2022/2023, hitting the net five times.

The Giallorossi get attached to fancy and expensive names pretty much every day, but, unless they sell somebody profitable, they’re more likely to complete cost-effective deals. He petered off significantly after a fast start last season and would be a rotational piece and a super-sub thanks to his quickness in a big club. A few minnows could use him. The ties with Udinese are clear, for instance. It’d be a rare snafu for Pantaleo Corvino, who could have redeemed him just to flip him.
