Fiorentina Appoint Palladino to Substitute for Italiano

Fiorentina wasted little time to find a new coach after a mutual split with Vincenzo Italiano, whose deal was expiring, as Raffaele Palladino arrived in town to negotiate the terms a day after their season finale.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the former Monza gaffer has inked a two-year contract with a team option for another season. He’ll earn €1.6M plus add-ons. He’ll have five or six assistants.

Palladino joins Fiorentina after almost two seasons in the Brianzoli dugout. He was promoted from their Primavera side in September 2022 after Giovanni Stroppa was axed. The Biancorossi finished 11th and 12th in the last two campaigns, easily avoiding relegation. He has recorded 26 wins, 21 draws, and 26 losses. He beat out especially Pisa’s Alberto Aquilani, who worked in La Viola’s youth academy in the past.

As for Italiano, he had a meeting with Bologna. He’s taking his time to decide whether to take the job. Lazio could also be in the picture if they parted ways with Igor Tudor. Instead, Monza are examining Marco Baroni, who has left Verona, and Alessandro Nesta, who’s at Reggiana, Nicolò Schira reports.

Our Take on Fiorentina and Palladino

It would have been tough to keep up the right level of motivation with the same gaffer and the same goals for the third consecutive season. They had to either switch things up on their bench or significantly overhaul their squad, and they opted for the cheapest route. They’ll have tactical continuity, and he’s been solid in Brianza. It’s also a nice intermediate step for him before possibly taking over a top side.
