Fiorentina Captain Davide Astori Passes Away at 31

The world of football was shocked today at the tragic news that Fiorentina captain Davide Astori suddenly passed away at 31 in Udine. Astori, who was capped 14 times by the Italian Nazionale, was found dead in his hotel room, apparently on natural causes. He was expected to play Udinese today together with his Fiorentina teammates.

Italian Olympic Committee President, and current emergency leader of Lega Serie A (The elite division teams association) Giovanni Malago’ ordered the immediate cancellation of all Serie A and Serie B matches in program today.

Davide Astori, 31 years, born in Bergamo, was a central defender raised with the Milan youth team. Prior to joining Fiorentina, he played for Cagliari (2008-2014), and Roma (2015). He was part of the Italian team that earned a third place at the 2013 Confederation Cup in Brazil, where he scored his only Nazionale goal during the 3rd Place playoff against Uruguay.

The Cult of Calcio joins the sorrow of his family, his teammates, and his club. All publications will be suspended today.

There is not much else that we feel to add at this stage, if not for an emotional ciao!  to a good athlete and, moreover, a loyal and fair person.
