Fiorentina director Joe Barone has shot down the rumors about the possible sale of the club that have been circulating in the last few days, suggesting a possible interest from Saudi investors. He spoke to Sky before the Lazio game.
“Fiorentina have never been for sale and surely aren’t now. The murmurs that say we are negotiating with other subjects are false and unfounded. This ownership is convinced of the work it’s carry on. The club is at the center of its investments.”
A recent report indicated that former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi held talks with a Saudi fund to convince them to take over Fiorentina. Barone clarified.
“This story is a year-and-a-half old. I’m sorry the media and politicians keep spreading it. Let’s focus on the match and Serie A, not on this fake news, which dates back to a time when the team was struggling a little. It’s an ancient matter that can’t destabilize us.”
Owner Rocco Commisso recently unveiled the futuristic Viola Park, whose construction cost €113M. Barone also recently addressed Arthur, hinting that he’d finish the season with Fiorentina, and perhaps stay past the loan spell, despite the buzz about Juventus being interested in bringing him back early.
“He’s doing well, and we’re satisfied with his performances. We’ll see at the end of the season what to do with the team that controls him.”
