Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has opened up on the club’s busted attempt to sign Vitor Roque from Barcelona during the summer transfer window. Prade admitted that La Viola tried to lure the Brazilian forward to Tuscany, only to be blown out of the water by the Catalan side’s stratospheric demands.
“We tried to sign Vítor Roque, but the conditions were impossible at that time. Barcelona wanted €40m, so there was no chance,” the Fiorentina chief executive said, as per Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.
It was a busy summer for Fiorentina after the departure of long-serving manager Vincenzo Italiano. The club also lost standout forward Nicolas Gonzalez to Juventus. The Argentine’s exit left a sizeable hole in the final third, urging Prade to scour the market for a quality replacement.
Moise Kean and Albert Gudmundsson have joined Fiorentina from Juventus and Genoa, respectively. However, back-to-back Europa Conference League runners-up wanted to land Vitor Roque after Barcelona deemed the 19-year-old surplus to requirements.
In addition to Fiorentina, Lazio showed interest in the ex-Athletico Paranaense starlet. But he has linked up with Real Betis on a season-long loan. Barcelona’s price tag proved prohibitive for both Serie A teams, resulting in the youngster’s stay in La Liga.
Despite failing to sign Vitor Roque, Fiorentina completed more exciting signings in the transfer window just gone. David de Gea, Yacine Adli, Danilo Cataldi, Andrea Colpani, Edoardo Bove, and Robin Gosens are among the most eye-catching additions to Raffaele Palladno’s squad.
