Fiorentina Close to Landing Russian Attacker

After following him since mid-December, Fiorentina have stepped up their efforts to sign Aleksandar Kokorin from Spartak Moscow and the negotiation is nearing a positive outcome, transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio reported. The Viola offered €5M and are waiting for the Russian side to give their final greenlight, while the player would get €1.7M per year.

The 29-year-old forward can feature in a couple of positions and has recorded two goals and two assists in ten appearances in the ongoing campaign. He reached the double-digit threshold twice during the course of his career. He previously spent time at Dynamo Moscow, Zenit and Sochi.

Fiorentina, which let go Patrick Cutrone at the beginning of the window, have previously been linked to few strikers, primarily Herta Berlin’s Krzysztof Piatek and Genoa’s Gianluca Scamacca, but decided not to go through with their attempts to sign a goal poacher once Dusan Vlahovic started to score consistently.

In other Viola-related news, Tuttomercatoweb informed that owner Rocco Commisso will soon met with former Roma and Torino director Gianluca Petrachi, who is a candidate to replace Daniele Pradè at the end of the season since the current executive is an expiring contract.

Our view

Fiorentina are starving for some offense as Franck Ribery and José Maria Callejon have not been productive so far. Differently from other targets, Kokorin will be able to slide next to Vlahovic and the purchase is not particularly expensive, so it figures to be a good addition despite some character issues.
