Fiorentina Demand ‘Discount’ to Onboard Loanee Torreira from Arsenal

Lucas Torreira is fast emerging to be one of Fiorentina’s most important midfielders. The 26-year-old is keen to leave behind his disappointing Arsenal legacy as he continues to adapt well to life in Florence under Vincenzo Italiano.

He is currently on loan from the Gunners and La Viola look determined to sign him on a permanent basis – a move that could evidently help the North Londoners to free up space in midfield and also receive much needed funds to invest in the transfer market.

The loan for the Uruguayan was exercised with an option to buy for €15m and Fiorentina prepare to part ways with the finances, albeit with a hunch. The Italians will aim for a potential discount from their English counterparts, according to La Nazione (via FirenzeViola.it). However, the report also mentions of Arsenal’s hesitancy to agree with Fiorentina over the matter.

The central midfielder has appeared 26 times for the Viola this campaign and his performances do justice to the transfer fee demanded by Arsenal.

His initial contract with the English club expires only at the end of next season.

Torreira has spent virtually all his professional playing career in Serie A, with the exception of two seasons with Arsenal, where he secured 89 caps.
