Fiorentina Establish Contact for Wolfsburg Shotstopper Casteels

Fiorentina’s search for a goalkeeper to succeed Pietro Terracciano is ongoing, and the club management have taken interest in a new candidate. Wolfsburg shotstopper Koen Casteels, despite joining up with the German outfit to train ahead of the new season, has drawn attention from the Viola.

As per ViolaNews, following the dulling down of links with Dominik Livakovic, who is closing to Fenerbahçe instead, first contacts have been established by Fiorentina for Belgian keeper Casteels. The 31-year-old shotstopper is reportedly in pole position ahead of other targets such as Tim Horn, Wladimiro Falcone, Kamil Grabara and Alphonse Areola.

Casteels was sought by the Florence giants back in 2016, one year after he moved to Wolfsburg from Hoffenheim.

Casteels has spent his whole senior playing career in Germany after graduating from Belgian outfit Genk, but now the Viola could offer him the chance to star in Serie A.

Vincenzo Italiano has reportedly made it his priority to reinforce the goalkeeping position, along with the forward line. Casteels is not the only target from Bundesliga for the Viola, as Werder Bremen striker Fullkrug also falls on the club’s radar.
