Fiorentina Exec Barone Passes Away After Heart Attack

Fiorentina director Joe Barone has passed away at 57 years old following a stroke he suffered on Sunday. His conditions have been critical since he was rushed to the San Raffaele Hospital right before the match against Atalanta in the last Serie A round.

Fiorentina made the announcement on Tuesday after he fought for his life in the last couple of days.

“The club is devastated for the loss of a man that offered his great professionalism, heart, and passion for these colors, a friend that made himself available and was always close in all moments, the happy and especially the sad ones. The whole Viola world gathers around his wife Camilla, his children and the Barone family in this tragic moment.”

The CEO had been kept alive by the machines after collapsing. His closest relatives paid their final visit on Tuesday morning as things further worsened, La Repubblica informed.

Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso will arrive in Italy on Wednesday to pay homage to his collaborator. The wake will be held at the Viola Park, his greatest achievement. The funeral will take place in his hometown Pozzallo.

Barone has been working in football since 2017 when he became the deputy president of the New York Cosmos, which the Viola owner saved from bankruptcy. He has been the Gigliati’s CEO since 2019. He was particularly active in the Serie A assemblies and political matters.
